Rules Are Rules

Keep the procedure with the agreement

Issue 2 - September 2026

You have signed an agreement that sends certain disputes to arbitration. The clause refers you to a set of rules, and the rules refer you to a form. It can feel as though the paperwork grows when you open it. In practice, you are discovering the parts that were already there.

Keep the documents together

Save your signed agreement and the version of the rules it refers to. Add any later notice of a change. Use a folder name you will recognise when you are tired. This is a good place for plain language.

If you have a dispute to raise, read the procedure before drafting the account. Note the contact details and any stated deadline. A clear account still needs somewhere to arrive.

The clause in front of you may use reassuring words such as efficient and private. You can appreciate those aims while making room in your evening for the documents the procedure requests. Efficiency describes the process. It does not tell you how long it takes to find an attachment.

Make yourself easy to follow

Put events in date order. Keep originals and work from copies. If the documents leave you unsure of your rights or the next step, take them together to a qualified adviser. You do not need to resolve uncertainty by guessing.

Set the papers on the table where you can read them without bending over your lap. Your shoulders have already done a day’s work. With the procedure saved beside the agreement, you are ready to begin the preparation.
