The deductible resets in January
Q. The deductible on my plan resets in January and my insulin costs more than my rent that month.
January is difficult for many contributors, and planning is the answer. Spread your prescriptions across the year so that the final refill falls in December.
Some readers find that a slightly reduced dose in the first weeks, agreed with their own conscience, bridges the gap; we cannot recommend this, but we note that it is widely practised.
Above all, remember that the plan is a benefit your employer provides voluntarily, and that a portion of the company’s good quarter returns to you through your retirement account. See Your Portfolio in this issue.
